What does the active applications on Samsung phone do?

Q. I just got a Samsung Galaxy S4 and trying to figure out what all these apps and widgets do. In widgets, there's one called active applications. I know that you can see which apps you have recently opened and you can "end" them. It also displays the MB and CPU % of each active app. What exactly do those mean?

My question is does this widget benefit the phone at all when you "end" apps that you're not using? Does it save battery or Internet usage data?

Also please give other advice on how to save battery and especially save Internet data on the phone so i don't go over my limit of 5.0 GB. Thank you so much for helping a non-technology savvy person like myself.

A. Active applications refers to the applications running in the background. These applications consume system resources. The widget also shows the amount of RAM (Measured in Megabytes). RAM (Random access memory) is a temporary form of storage for data which keeps your applications running. Your CPU (Central processing unit ) processes data to carry out instructions to run applications. The more RAM and more CPU a certain process/application uses, the more likely it will make you smartphone feel slower.(You will not notice a significant drop in speed when having many active applications because the Galaxy S4 is one of the fastest and most powerful phones around).

To make sure you don't go over the network data limit, you can finish running applications which try to connect to the internet such as Youtube.

You can go to:
1-Settings
2-Connections (At the top)
3-Data Usage
4-Set mobile data limit
5-Set a limit on mobile data usage and a warning to tell you when you are getting close.

How to rid of pictures from Samsung phone?
Q. I have a SGH-T139 Samsung flip phone from T- Mobile, now on my photo album it only gives me two options "save or view" and nothing else. Is there a way to erase them as for I have no use for those pictures? I want to see if I can do this with out using customer service or going to a store but those are my last options. I went to the mall shops and they didn't have a clue on how to do it.
If it would of had a delete button I wouldn't be asking this question.

A. Click on the picture. Go to options and hit the delete button.

How do you use a data cable for a Samsung phone after it's installed on a computer?
Q. I bought the cable with an installation disk, Windows found the hardware and found the driver on the install disk, and it was the correct one for my XP operating system. It completed with a successful install message, but I don't see at this point how I can use it. It doesn't show up as a new drive, storage device, or anything else in my computer. Theres no new program on the desktop for it, and theres no executable on the install disk. Any ideas?

A. Not all phones will just show up as something like a USB flash drive when they are connected. (In fact, of the three different models in this house - none of them do.) Instead, the cable is a USB to serial port converter and the phone shows up under the Modems and under the Ports sections of the Device Manager. The cable and driver gave you a communications path, but what you need is another application (that uses the driver you installed) to move data to/from the phone.

There may be additional programs on the CD that will do this. If not, look into BitPim at http://www.bitpim.org/ , which is my favorite. My son, though, has a Samsung Gleam, and the only thing he was able to use (so far - BitPim is updated often, so that may change) is QPST (Qualcomm Phone Support Tools, I believe) 2.7 bulid 215. This site has better screen captures than I could explain with words: http://www.menekali.com/qpst-27-build-215-direct-download/ You didn't mention which Samsung model you have, but maybe this will point you in the right direction.

How to get the lcd tv logo off a samsung tv?

Q. On my new samsung 32 inch lcd tv there is a logo that says "lcd tv ToC series 4" followed by a few logos beneath it. It keeps reappearing and is very aggravating.

A. You need to change your tv mode from store to home. Check in the main tv menu under the Plug and Play button. The home/store mode selector should be in there. If not, do a search for where it's located on your exact model.

How do I achieve the Best Quality Video with my Samsung TV and Blu Ray?
Q. How do I achieve the best quality picture and video with my Samsung LN40A550 and my Samsung Blu Ray Player? What techniques and settings are the best?

A. Use a HDMI cable. Inexpensive works fine as long as the runs are less than about 12 feet.

Buy a copy of the BluRay version of Digital Video Essentials. Use the tutorials to adjust the color/brightness/contrast between your BluRay player and your TV.

You cannot simply use anyone elses numbers because your equipment is different from others. The adjustments are there BECAUSE of these differences.

Many Pixar disks like the new Wall-E disk have simple test patterns and instructions, but Digital Video Essentials is better.

How to hook up my Samsung TV to a surround sound receiver?

Q. I am trying to get my Samsung tv to connest to my surround sound receiver. This tv only has RGB and RW INS and no outs so how do i get the receiver to pick up the sound???? The HDMI are ins also and not outs.

A. HDMI can carry sound. IF the receiver is a fairly recent one that has HDMI in and out, you are in luck. The purpose of the receiver having HDMI is to extract the audio for decoding and to select between hdmi inputs. You can tell a receiver of this type by whether or not it can decode the two BluRay codexes, DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD. In this case, you connect all devices to the receiver and it does the selection.

If the receiver isn't this type, then it depends on the devices. Many receivers can receive multiple inputs. Set your receiver up to a different input and it will play the audio.

How do I make my Samsung TV to be full screen?

Will a wireless repeater relay internet to my Samsung TV instead of a wireless bridge?
Q. Most suggestions for internet hookup suggest a wireless bridge, but I wondering whether or not the "typically" cheaper wireless repeater would be an alternative. Also, please explain in layman's terms the difference between a repeater and a bridge.

A. I´ve tried Internet television now for a while and definitely think it is both the cheapest and best. I´ve also found a super good link.

Why can't a Samsung cell phone from StraightTalk upload pictures to the computer?

Q. We have the right connections. My 15 yr old son says that some picture phones won't upload to the computer. Then why do they have cameras?

A. The pictures can be stored in two places, on the phone or on the Micro SD card. The reason he can not access his pictures is because the pictures are being saved on the phone and the computer is accessing the Micro SD card.

He needs to move the pictures from the phone to the memory card. This way he will be able to see all of his pictures.

Is it possible to connect usb keyboard and mouse to my samsung tv and control computer?
Q. My computer is connected to my samsung tv by hdmi cable. I was wondering if it's possible to connect usb mouse and keyboard directly to tv and control computer that way(using hdmi cable connection)?

I would like to play video games on my tv instead of computer's monitor, but it is too far from my computer to use wireless controls.

A. You cannot use a Keyboard or Mouse on the TV. The TV is just a display, you have to connect them directly to the PC. I would recommend relocating your PC so that it's closer. Or buying USB Extenders for the Keyboard/Mouse.

How do I change designated channel numbers on a Samsung TV?
Q. Since my laptop broke, I've been having to use my Samsung TV as my computer monitor. However when I have to turn the PC channel on, I have to press 'source' 3 times. Is there any way I can program it so that I can simply press one button to get my PC channel on?

A. Actually NEWER Samsung TVs sense which inputs are connected, and are active....and with ONE push of a button, you are there....

Obviously, you have an older TV...so you're going to have to do it the old Cave-man way just like the rest of us Cave-men.
